A Little Inside Info

Why is your photo location your favorite York destination?

My photo location is The Yorktowne Hotel. I chose the hotel because it brings back a lot of fond memories.  While in college, I stayed in contact with a childhood friend who was a music major. He was very much a part of the local Jazz scene, so I followed his quartet, and other bands that he played in around the area. One of my favorite places to listen to him play was at Autographs (now called OffCenter Grill) at The Yorktowne. I think it was the history and the overall atmosphere of the place. It just felt like the sounds of Jazz belonged there.

I also celebrated one of my wedding anniversaries at The Yorktowne’s Commonwealth Room restaurant – the prime rib was awesome.  I have attended many other memorable events at the Yorktowne. I just thought we needed a picture together.

What activities do you enjoy and why?

I enjoy all and any type of sport. Well … maybe not nascar. Watching a car go around, and around, and around a track doesn’t excite me much. However, anything from pool to ping pong to baseball, swimming, volleyball, basketball, cross country, soccer and football, etc… Now that gets my heart going.

I’m sure I was one of those kids that drove my parents crazy … I was involved in football, baseball, wrestling, golf and swimming. As I got older, I took up softball and volleyball. I then had my own children and their activities seem to have gotten in the way! So I then got involved in coaching t-ball, basketball, football and soccer, and going to dance lessons and recitals, soccer and basketball games, and more recently, cross-country track meets.

Golf continues to be one of my passions. However, I just can’t seem to find the time to play and get the “scores” I want anymore.

I also enjoy fly fishing. To me, there is just something cool about taking a feather, some squirrel hair, tying them on a hook, throwing it in the water and with the proper flick of the wrist, catching a trout.

So to say I enjoy sports might be a bit of an understatement.

Any nonprofit you love and why?

Nurse-Family Partnership. This is my favorite nonprofit, and not just because my wife would kill me if I didn’t say that … she is the nursing supervisor at the NFP in York. I might be a little biased, but it is truly a very worthwhile organization. I’d tell you all about it, but they would do a better job explaining it here on their website than I would.
